“Gifts” from the Universe…

It all started on a gorgeous day

Go back to the Spring of 2018… I had recently moved to London. I was still getting to know the city, and it was my first spring in London as a resident. If you know London, you know how gorgeous the city can be in the springtime. After the wet and rainy winter, there often is a period of 2–4 weeks in April and May when the weather is absolutely gorgeous. The city comes back to life. Storefronts add flower arrangements and decorations to adorn their windows and storefronts. People come out to enjoy the multitudes of patios at pubs and restaurants. The parks come back to life. The whole city has this buzz, and there’s a general lightness as everyone feels more jovial, having made it through yet another dark winter. Everyone is looking forward to Spring and Summer with open-air festivals and other reasons to celebrate outdoors. So it’s with that backdrop in mind that my experience on that gorgeous day was a rapid grounding into the other reality that is also London.

On that particular day, I left the office at a more reasonable time and rode the Tube to West Brompton, the closest stop to our house on the District Line. It was a gorgeous day! A Wednesday with no football games, so the Tube was clear of raucous or obscenely drunk Chelsea fans. Beyond that, the District Line, normally packed at rush hour, was light, all trains were on time, and all connections were smooth. What a day! I was looking forward to a chill evening at home!
